Biography

Pauline studied at the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester and at La Scala, Milan. She has received critical acclaim for her comedic abilities and wide-ranging concert repertoire from Broadway to operetta in addition to her roles on the operatic stage.

Pauline was invited to sing in the recent D’Oyly Carte Opera concert in the British Library to celebrate the opening of the company’s exhibition, and is reprising that performance in the upcoming Wolverhampton Grand Theatre concert marking its 150th anniversary. She has also been invited to sing in several concerts in Italy for London Festival Opera.

In 2016, she covered and performed for Scottish Opera the role of Katisha in The Mikado. For Welsh National Opera in the 2016 and 2017 seasons, Pauline covered the roles of Mrs. Darling and Tiger Lily in Peter Pan, Filipyevna in Eugene Onegin, and Mrs. Lovett in Sweeney Todd.

Also in 2016, Pauline sang all four leading contralto roles in the Gilbert & Sullivan Festival in Buxton and Harrogate, and on tour around the United Kingdom.

She has performed with La Scala, Milan; The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden; English National Opera; La Fenice, Venice; The D’Oyly Carte Opera Company; Diva Opera; London Festival Opera and Longborough Festival Opera. She has also appeared at the Royal Albert and Royal Festival Halls, London.

She was invited by the Hoffnung Society to perform Azucarmen in Let’s Fake an Opera and The Dowager Lady Frankenstein in Horrortorio at the Gasteig Concert Hall, Munich, accompanied by the Bayrische Rundfunk Orchestra and broadcast live on Munich radio.

Pauline was a founder member of the new D’Oyly Carte Opera, for which she sang the roles of Lady Ellington (Offenbach’s La Vie Parisienne); Edith and Kate in The Pirates of Penzance; Pitti Sing in The Mikado at the Royal Festival Hall, London. Other operetta roles include Fairy Queen, Iolanthe; Katisha, Mikado; Ruth, Pirates of Penzance; The Duchess, The Gondoliers; and Dame Carruthers, The Yeomen of the Guard.

As well as on tours to the Far and Middle East, she also enjoys performing her wide range of concert repertoire, from opera to Broadway, aboard numerous cruise lines including P&O, Holland America, Silver Seas, Fred Olsen and Saga; Noble Caledonia river cruises and Cunard’s Queen Mary II. Pauline has appeared on TER Records’ cast recordings of My Fair Lady, It’s a Wonderful Town, Guys and Dolls, Singing in the Rain, Fiddler on the Roof, and numerous Gilbert and Sullivan operettas for The D’Oyly Carte.
